The Lake: Water Skiing, Wakeboarding, Canoeing, Sailing & Fishing:

The Rafferty Reservoir has become known as the southern Saskatchewan walleye "hot spot" for hundreds of area anglers as well as out-of-province fishermen that have made the trip to test their skills. The reservoir's southerly location, warm water temperatures and large and deep size have created a unique body of water. The reservoir provides the province with an excellent fishery and creates an opportunity for numerous residents living in the south, as well as southern tourists, to enjoy the sport of fishing without having to travel long distances to our northern lakes.
The Rafferty Reservoir lies about 29 miles north of the North Dakota/Saskatchewan border.
The reservoir stretches out for about 55 kms (35 miles) in a northwest/southeast direction, between Weyburn and Estevan.
The Rafferty-Alameda Project was developed over the 1988-95 period as a multi-purpose project to provide water for the area.
The project has ensured that a more reliable water source is available for municipal, domestic, irrigation and recreational use.

Services Provided

Bird Watching: A Fascinating Local Pastime.

Southern Saskatchewan offers you a wonderful opportunity to see some of Canada's most exceptional birds in their homes, migratory stops and breeding grounds. Saskatchewan hosts over 25% of the continent's ducks and geese.
Beginning in May, waves of migrating birds stop here to rest and feed before continuing on to their breeding grounds farther to the North. They then return with a new generation in September.
Visitors can get a look at the sharp-tailed grouse, Saskatchewan's provincial bird. Long-billed curlews, burrowing owls, chestnut-collared longspurs and McCowan's longspurs are a few species of the many species of shorebirds and waterfowl that can be found here.

Golfing :

Mainprize Regional Park is well known for its beautiful 18 hole "Links-Style" Golf Course designed by John F. Robinson.
Taking advantage of the rolling prairie wool-covered valleys on the shoreline of the Rafferty Reservoir, he professionally designed a course where you'd think you were in golf's home, Scotland.
The golf facility is one of Saskatchewan's favorite golf tournament locations because of the generous fairways and a choice of four different tee boxes to match your group's ability.
Challenge your skill with over 100 sand traps, man-made lakes and yardage of 5672 to 7022.
Golf carts are available for rent.

History of the Area: The Foundations of Time.

Saskatchewan Environment and Resource Management began a stocking program on Rafferty Reservoir in 1992. Substantial test netting, weighing, counting and measuring by S.E.R.M, concluded that the growth and survival rates of the stocked walleye were well above average and the walleye were reproducing on their own.
The stocking program was ended in 1999. Walleye populations continue to thrive while reproducing on their own.
The local area is also rich with history and Aboriginal culture. Before the time of the settlers many nomadic Aboriginal cultures coexisted in the area. They hunted and gathered while living in harmony with nature.
Many local historic sites have been identified and more are being discovered every year.
Directions to these sites are available at Harbour View Bed & Breakfast.
